Bibliotech
A private log of everything you watch, play, read and listen to: films, shows, games, books, albums and comics, all in one place. Rate them, track your progress down to the episode or volume, keep a diary and see your year in numbers. Bring your history with you from Letterboxd, Goodreads, IMDb and MyAnimeList. Your shelf stays on your device, and there is no account.
Running this app
- This app runs on desktop or mobile.
- You can access this app by selecting the "Open Bibliotech" button above. Once the app is open you can also install a local version of the app called a "PWA" if you want a shortcut to it on your desktop or mobile device. Alternatively, you can download this app as an HTML file to open offline.
Internet access
- Not required to use the app. Logging, your diary, stats, importing and backups all work offline.
- Only the optional "Suggest matches online" feature needs a connection. It looks titles up as you type, and can bring in covers and episode lists.
Data
- Everything you log stays on your device, in your browser: your items, ratings, notes, progress, covers and episode lists. There is no account, and none of it is sent to us. When you first save something, the app asks your browser not to clear it automatically if your device runs low on space; the browser decides, and "Import & backup" shows its answer. Clearing your browser's site data yourself still erases it, so use "Export backup" to keep a copy as a JSON file.
- Files you import (from Letterboxd, Goodreads, IMDb or MyAnimeList) and pictures you choose or take with your camera are read on your device and never uploaded.
- "Suggest matches online" is off until you turn it on. While it is on, the title you type is sent to our server, which looks it up on Wikidata, TVmaze, Open Library or MusicBrainz for you, so those services see our server rather than you. Picking a match fetches its cover once (from Open Library, TVmaze or the Cover Art Archive) and, for a show, its episode list from TVmaze, in the same way.
- Our server keeps no record of your searches. Like any web server, its request logs, kept for one day, contain each address it was asked for, which includes the title you typed or the show's id.

How to use it
- Press + Add, pick a type (film, show, game, book, album or comic) and type a title. Tick "Suggest matches online" if you want it to fill in the details and the cover for you.
- Set a status (want, in progress, finished or dropped), a rating, dates, tags and notes.
- For shows and comics, track your progress: tick off episodes season by season, or count volumes, issues or chapters.
- Filter your shelf with the type and status chips at the top, and look back with the Diary and Stats tabs.
- Bring your history in from "Import & backup", and export a backup now and then.
Worth knowing
- Your shelf lives in one browser on one device. The installed app, the downloaded HTML file and another browser each keep their own; use "Export backup" and "Restore backup" to move between them.
- Suggestions bring covers for books, albums, most shows and many comics. Films and games come without one, because the open sources we use do not publish posters or box art. You can choose your own picture, or take a photo of the case or book.
- Episode lists come from TVmaze, which covers most shows and mainstream anime. Comics and manga are tracked by counting volumes, issues or chapters: no source we can use lists them one by one.
- Imports carry what the other service exports. MyAnimeList gives romaji titles with no year or studio. IMDb records when you rated something rather than when you watched it, so that date becomes the finish date.
