About

FreeUsefulApps.ca is a small collection of single-purpose tools. Each one does one job, runs in your browser, and asks nothing of you. This page covers who makes them, what the site collects, and how it pays for itself.

Who makes these, and why they're free

How a tool gets built Something is annoying, the fix is small, so it gets written and put here.
Why they're free They cost almost nothing to host. Ads and donations cover it.
Why one HTML file A single file works on any device, keeps working offline, and can't quietly change under you. A tool that can't work that way — because it needs live data — runs on this site instead, and says so.
If a tool breaks Tell us and it gets fixed, or the page says it's unmaintained.

What we collect

Short version: the tools collect nothing, and the site collects as little as a website can. A few tools need the internet; each one says what it sends, and to whom, before it sends anything. Here is the whole list.

The tools you download

Accounts None. There is no sign-up anywhere on this site.
Network Once saved, a tool makes no network calls. You can use it with the internet switched off.
Your data Anything you type stays in your browser on your device. Tools that remember your work say so on their page.
Deleting it Clearing your browser data removes it. Nothing is held anywhere else.

Tools that run on this site

Why they exist Some jobs need live data a file can't carry — a sports schedule, for example. Those tools run here instead of being downloaded, and their catalog entry says “Web tool”.
What they send Only what the job needs, listed on the tool's page under “Sends” and shown again next to the button that sends it. Never your name, your email or an account.
Our server Where a service can't be reached from your browser directly, our server passes the request on and hands the answer back. It keeps no record of what you asked beyond the standard request logs below.
Offline They need a connection to fetch data. What they give you — a calendar file, say — is yours and works offline.

How this site pays for itself

Two things: ads, and one-off donations. That is the whole model, written out so you can decide what you think of it.

Ads At most two per page, in a dashed box labelled "Advertisement — not a download". Served without tracking cookies. [CHECK] ad network name
Donations One-off, any amount, no account. [CHECK] donation link
Not for sale Catalog position. No tool is paid to rank higher, and no download button is ever an ad.
Also not for sale Bundled installers, toolbars, "recommended offers", or your email address.
What it costs to run Hosting and a domain. [CHECK] rough annual figure, if you want it public
If a tool saved you an afternoon, you can put something in. If not, use it anyway. Donate once — [CHECK] link No monthly option, no membership, nothing unlocked by paying.
